UKRAINIAN ASSOCIATION OF THE LIME INDUSTRY TOOK PART IN THE ANNUAL FORUM OF ILA (INTERNATIONAL LIME ASSOCIATION)

“The delegation from Ukraine included the President of the Ukrainian Association of the lime industry Mikhail Korilkevich and representatives of the largest lime producers in the East and West of the country, namely Ukrspecizvest and Galichina-Lime companies”.

The forum program consisted of several thematic blocks. On the first day, visiting the exhibition of technical innovations in the field of lime production and use, the participants had the opportunity to freely get acquainted with each other. The next day, the official part of the forum was held, where representatives of national associations with the right to vote, which includes Ukrainian Association of the lime industry, elected a new President of ILA, the Board of Directors, reviewed and approved the action plan and budget of the Association for the next year.

The position of ILA President is elective, the President is elected for a term of four years. This year, Wayne Brown, the head of the South African lime Association, was elected the new President of the ILA. Mikhail Korilkevich, President of the Ukrainian Association of the lime industry, after personally meeting the newly elected President of the ILA, received a promise from Wayne Brown to make a visit to Ukraine in September 2015. Interestingly, the Association determines in advance which part of the world the next President will represent. In four years, the Association will be headed by a European representative. We hope that a representative of the Ukrainian Association of the lime industry will also be able to apply for the chair of the ILA head.

On the last day, forum participants had the opportunity to visit enterprises that produce or use lime in their activities. The Ukrainian delegation visited a water treatment plant that provides drinking water to 27 cities, including Vancouver. Familiarity with such enterprises confirmed the idea of a great potential for expanding the use of lime in the field of water treatment in Ukraine, the scale of which is currently significantly lower than the indicators of developed countries.

The forum was accompanied by meetings of representatives of the Ukrainian delegation with the heads of the world’s largest lime producers, in particular, Lhoist, Sibelco Group, Carmeuse, etc. Representatives of companies expressed interest in the state of affairs in the lime industry.

As a result, we note that the Ukrainian Association of the lime industry makes consistent efforts to promote the openness of the industry, familiarizing domestic enterprises with the best business practices and technical and technological innovations. Participation in such events on an international scale allows us to make the country’s lime industry open and accessible for dialogue with the global business community, which is especially important in these difficult times, when the region needs, as a rule, new opportunities and investments.
